Best Luxury Neighborhoods in San Antonio: Where to Live in 2026

San Antonio's luxury real estate market offers something that can be surprisingly difficult to find in many major Texas cities: variety.

Buyers can choose between guard-gated golf communities, established neighborhoods with large wooded lots, contemporary estates in North San Antonio, historic luxury closer to the city's core, or sprawling Hill Country properties just outside the city.

As a luxury real estate advisor serving San Antonio and the surrounding Texas Hill Country, I regularly help buyers compare these communities. One of the most important things I tell clients is that there isn't one universally "best" luxury neighborhood in San Antonio.

The right neighborhood depends on the lifestyle you want.

Here are several communities luxury buyers should have on their radar when considering a move to San Antonio.

1. The Dominion

For many buyers, The Dominion remains one of the benchmarks for gated luxury living in San Antonio.

Located along the I-10 corridor in northwest San Antonio, The Dominion is known for custom estates, gated access, luxury amenities and a location that provides convenient access to many of the city's major employment, shopping and entertainment destinations.

The housing itself is remarkably diverse. Buyers can find everything from traditional Mediterranean-inspired estates to newer transitional and contemporary homes.

The Dominion is particularly worth considering for buyers who prioritize privacy, an established luxury environment and access to a country-club lifestyle.

It is also an area I know particularly well. My Kuper Sotheby's International Realty office is located directly in The Dominion.

The Dominion may be a good fit if you want: gated luxury, custom homes, golf and country-club amenities, proximity to I-10 and an established luxury address.

2. Shavano Park

Shavano Park is one of my favorite areas to introduce to luxury buyers who want space without feeling removed from San Antonio.

The independently incorporated city offers an unusual combination of established estate properties, larger homesites and newer gated luxury communities.

According to the City of Shavano Park, the community has maintained its own distinct identity while being surrounded by the larger San Antonio metropolitan area.

That character is part of Shavano Park's appeal. Buyers can encounter very different residential settings depending on which portion of the city they explore, including established estate neighborhoods and newer gated enclaves such as Huntington and Bentley Manor.

A buyer looking for a substantial newer luxury estate may be drawn to one section of Shavano Park, while someone who values mature trees, larger lots and an established residential setting may prefer another.

Its position near Loop 1604 also provides convenient access to North San Antonio while maintaining a noticeably residential atmosphere.

Shavano Park may be a good fit if you want: larger lots, mature trees, privacy, luxury homes and convenient access to North San Antonio.

3. Hill Country Village

For buyers whose definition of luxury begins with land and privacy, Hill Country Village deserves serious consideration.

This small municipality in North Central San Antonio can feel remarkably secluded considering its location within the larger metropolitan area.

Rather than the denser development found in many newer luxury communities, Hill Country Village is known for estate-style properties and larger homesites.

The result is a distinctly different luxury experience.

Buyers aren't necessarily choosing Hill Country Village because they want a long list of neighborhood amenities. They are often choosing it because they want space, privacy and an estate-like environment while remaining close to the conveniences of San Antonio.

Hill Country Village may be a good fit if you want: acreage, privacy, estate properties, mature landscaping and a central North San Antonio location.

4. Stone Oak

Stone Oak provides another version of North San Antonio luxury.

Rather than being one individual subdivision, Stone Oak encompasses numerous individual neighborhoods and gated communities. The Stone Oak Property Owners Association represents a large portion of this master-planned area.

That distinction matters when shopping for luxury real estate here.

Some sections of Stone Oak provide a more traditional suburban setting, while gated communities such as Champions Ridge offer larger custom luxury properties.

This makes Stone Oak particularly useful for buyers who want choices.

Its established commercial infrastructure is another major advantage. Restaurants, shopping, medical facilities and everyday services are readily accessible throughout the surrounding area.

Stone Oak may be a good fit if you want: North San Antonio convenience, gated neighborhood options, larger luxury homes and extensive nearby shopping and services.

5. Anaqua Springs Ranch

Buyers willing to move slightly farther toward the Texas Hill Country should consider Anaqua Springs Ranch.

This community offers a dramatically different setting from more urban luxury neighborhoods.

Here, much of the appeal centers around land, Hill Country scenery, custom architecture and privacy.

Anaqua Springs Ranch can be especially compelling for buyers who love the acreage and natural surroundings associated with the Texas Hill Country but still need reasonable access to San Antonio.

For someone deciding between a more traditional gated community and a Hill Country estate, comparing Anaqua Springs Ranch with The Dominion or Shavano Park can quickly clarify which lifestyle feels right.

Anaqua Springs Ranch may be a good fit if you want: acreage, Hill Country scenery, custom estates, gated privacy and more separation between neighboring homes.

6. Boerne

Boerne deserves its own category because it isn't simply a neighborhood. It offers an entirely different lifestyle.

Located northwest of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country, Boerne combines luxury residential communities with a distinct small-town identity.

The city's historic Main Street, Hill Country surroundings and proximity to San Antonio make the area especially appealing to buyers who want access to a major city while living in a more Hill Country-oriented environment.

You can learn more about the community directly through the City of Boerne.

Luxury options surrounding Boerne range from established neighborhoods to acreage properties and major master-planned communities.

For buyers relocating to San Antonio, one of the biggest decisions is often whether they want to live in San Antonio or embrace the Hill Country lifestyle around Boerne.

That decision can have a greater impact on daily life than the individual house you choose.

Boerne may be a good fit if you want: Texas Hill Country living, more land, a smaller-city atmosphere and continued access to San Antonio.

7. Cordillera Ranch

For buyers looking for a true luxury Hill Country lifestyle, Cordillera Ranch belongs on the list.

Located near Boerne, Cordillera Ranch is particularly appealing to buyers seeking substantial custom homes, larger properties and a community built around the natural Hill Country environment.

It provides a useful contrast with The Dominion.

The Dominion offers a more connected San Antonio luxury experience, while Cordillera Ranch often attracts buyers who place a higher priority on space and the Hill Country setting.

Neither is inherently better.

They represent two very different versions of luxury living, and understanding that difference is exactly why neighborhood selection matters so much when buying in the San Antonio area.

Cordillera Ranch may be a good fit if you want: Hill Country luxury, larger homesites, custom estates, privacy and a community-oriented luxury lifestyle.

8. Fair Oaks Ranch

Fair Oaks Ranch can be an excellent middle ground for buyers who find themselves torn between San Antonio and Boerne.

Located along the I-10 corridor, the area provides a Hill Country setting while maintaining access toward San Antonio.

Luxury homes here vary considerably, which is part of the appeal. Buyers may encounter established properties, golf-course homes and larger estate-style residences depending on the area.

For relocation buyers especially, I frequently recommend evaluating the entire I-10 corridor rather than drawing an arbitrary line between "San Antonio" and "Boerne."

Your commute, preferred lot size and desired lifestyle may ultimately make that decision for you.

Fair Oaks Ranch may be a good fit if you want: Hill Country surroundings, proximity to Boerne, access toward San Antonio and a range of luxury housing options.

Which San Antonio Luxury Neighborhood Is Best for You?

The easiest way to narrow your choices is to start with lifestyle rather than architecture.

  • If gated luxury and country-club living are priorities, begin with The Dominion.
  • If you want larger lots while staying close to North San Antonio, look closely at Shavano Park and Hill Country Village.
  • If convenience and North San Antonio amenities matter most, Stone Oak deserves consideration.
  • If you want acreage and Hill Country surroundings, explore Anaqua Springs Ranch.
  • If you're ready to embrace Texas Hill Country living, consider Boerne, Cordillera Ranch and Fair Oaks Ranch.

This is also why online lists can only take a luxury buyer so far. Two neighborhoods that appear similar on paper can feel completely different when you actually drive through them.

The right community should complement your commute, preferred lot size, architectural tastes, privacy expectations and the way you spend your time outside the house.
